For online classes, do ensure you have a functional laptop and have Zoom installed prior to class. For more details, you may read the Online-based Classroom Learner Guide.

WordPress.com is managed hosting on a subscription-based model with WordPress while WordPress.org is self-hosted and open source. You can sign up for a freemium account on WordPress.com and get started creating a website immediately. You may be prompted to go premium depending on what features you prefer to have. Premium features include regular auto backup, one-to-one support, and customisation.

On WordPress.org, you download the entire WordPress core files to your computer and upload it to your own server. From here on, you are entirely responsible for managing and maintaining your website. There are no freemium or premium models by WordPress and you are free to customise your website without any payment to WordPress.

More differences explained in this article – WordPress.org vs WordPress.com – What is the difference

WordPress is very user friendly compared to the other content management systems. There are a lot more plugins and themes available for users. It also has the largest market share of users and minimal technical expertise is required to use the platform. WordPress is also the most popular content management system in the world for developing informative websites or ecommerce stores.

Yes, WordPress.org is rated the most user-friendly platform to build a website on. – Source (wpbeginner)

No, you don’t need to know how to code to create a beautiful and modern-looking website. There are many drag-and-drop page builders, themes and templates that allow advanced customisation to make your website look impressive and unique which we will share in this course.

For more advanced customisations however, you may need to know HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, and MySQL. Some examples of more advanced customisations include CSS3 tricks and special effects, advanced web form workflows, and displaying dynamic content. However, you can also outsource advanced web development projects to experienced WordPress freelance developers through portals such as codeable.io and upwork.com. Understanding how WordPress functions and the backend structure will definitely help you better manage outsourcing any developments on your website.

If you wish to recreate your website from scratch, this course would be relevant for you.

However, if you wish to customise your existing WordPress website page layouts, then this course may not be relevant for you as it is meant to teach you how to create a website from scratch. Also, if you have already customised your existing theme, then the DIVI theme we teach may be entirely different from yours and you will not be able to follow along. Nonetheless, you can still improve upon your existing knowledge by learning how to:

  • Design landing pages that engage users & increase conversions.
  • Enhance website functionality.
  • Manage basic on-page SEO to improve website’s search engine-friendliness.
  • Maintain & effectively manage a WordPress website (e.g. enhancing website security and keeping it up to date).

Cost estimates in SGD are:

  • Domain name: $15/year for a dot com domain
  • Web hosting: From $200/year for a reliable web host
  • Premium theme: $100 lifetime

Totalling approximately $315 for the first year and $215/year thereafter. Note that there may be other premium plugins you may need to purchase if you wish to enhance the functionality of your website, such as including payment methods on your booking form and other unique features depending on your industry.

Unlike other free WordPress courses out there in the market who entice you to sign up and later upsell/hard-sell you with their web design services, we are solely specialised in training and are ultimately dedicated to ensuring you get the best quality of training, and this comes with:

  • Hands-on practice through demonstration and modelling, by a patient and experienced trainer guiding you every step of the way.
  • Helping you to understand the best practices of building a website including how to secure your website from hackers, backing up your website in case of any mishaps, and keeping abreast of modern web design trends.
  • The most comprehensive WordPress syllabus. By the end of the course, you will understand the how WordPress works from the bottom up. This will also help you to manage a web development agency even if you decide not to build or maintain a website yourself at the end of the day.
  • After-training support with your trainer.
  • 3-year access to up-to-date course materials, step-by-step guides, and e-learning videos via the learning portal.
  • A complimentary refresher seat for up to 3 years after the last attended date of your course.

Whether or not you will be able to create an impressive modern-looking website varies from individual to individual. There are several conditions you will need to meet in order to achieve this outcome:

  • Time, commitment and dedication – Building a professional-looking website requires many hours of commitment sitting down at your computer and paying attention to detail.
  • Having a knack for design – Even with the plethora of templates available, you still need to adhere to basic design principles such as a having a good eye for colour combinations, appropriate spacing between elements, and a good choice of font family and font sizing.
  • Good project management skills – With so many details to pay attention to when building your website, you need to be able to keep everything organised and in good order.

Here are some examples of websites that our trainees have created. Browse our trainee portfolio here.

Yes, you may contact your trainer after the course. There are other post-training support channels such as the Equinet Academy Insider Community where you may network with like-minded individuals and industry experts and live Ask Me Anything sessions where you may seek advice from a subject matter expert.

Without IT support, I needed to learn website creation independently. Now, I am confident in building my own website.

Melvin Lim

Recently attended the WordPress Website Creation course conducted by Chan Teck Seng. I must say Equinet is the place to go if you wish to learn. I’ve been to their Google Analytics course a couple of years ago and left with a wealth of knowledge as well. Their instructors are all real working people in the respective fields and not just a pure lecturer that’s well verse in the course materials. They share real life experiences during the sessions and are open to answer any questions that you may have. Teck Seng was very patient with the class as there were people of different skill levels. He handles the constant questions and interrupts really well so as not to affect the pace of the class. The examples given where very helpful and all were from his years of experience in the website creation field. All questions were answered and every successfully completed the course. Thank you Equinet and keep up the good work!

“I was most impressed with Teck Seng, who taught the WordPress Website Creation course I took in early 2020. The content was comprehensive, and his clear, detailed instructions helped me build a website from scratch. He was patient, generous with his knowledge, and always willing to help—even during post-training sessions and a follow-up call. Teck Seng is an excellent instructor, and I highly recommend his class at Equinet Academy to anyone looking to create a website.”
