Trainer's Bio

Tat Yuen is an ACLP-certified trainer and lifelong learner with over 30 years of experience in enterprise technology, spanning early systems through to modern cloud platforms. He now focuses on helping learners understand and use AI in practical, everyday contexts. Drawing on decades of experience translating complex ideas for diverse audiences, he teaches coding, AI literacy, and technology adoption with clarity and relevance. His goal is to empower students and professionals to engage thoughtfully and confidently with AI in their daily work and lives.

Tat Yuen’s journey into education has been unconventional, but every step has shaped how he approaches teaching and learning.

He immigrated from Hong Kong to New York City in 1965, where he developed a foundation in both technical and humanities disciplines. After writing his first computer program at the age of 15 and studying subjects ranging from Latin to mechanical engineering, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering and was part of one of the first undergraduate classes in the US to design and manufacture transistors in a wafer lab.

He spent over 30 years in enterprise software sales, primarily as a sales engineer, working through Silicon Valley’s evolution from client server architecture to cloud computing and SaaS. His career included roles at companies such as Oracle and Informix, as well as internet startups. In 2006, Salesforce assigned him to Singapore, where he later founded his own Salesforce implementation company to support social service organisations in their digital transformation journey.

What makes his background particularly relevant to education is his experience in sales engineering. It taught him how to build trust, ask incisive questions, and translate complex technical concepts into meaningful outcomes. He learned to adapt his communication style for different audiences, from technical teams to C suite executives. Most critically, he learned that people retain information best when it connects directly to their own context and goals.

His years of delivering product demonstrations and technical presentations to audiences ranging from developers to C suite leaders have honed his ability to read the room, adjust in real time, and make complex ideas immediately clear. He believes effective communication is not about what is said, but about what the audience understands and remembers. His wide ranging interests, from astrophysics and permaculture to geopolitics, architecture, and philosophy, give him a rich set of analogies that make technical concepts more accessible and memorable.

Since transitioning into education in 2024, Tat Yuen is ACLP certified and works as a freelance trainer. He has taught secondary school students coding and guided organisations through the adoption of new technologies. As a lifelong learner, he has recently completed courses in machine learning, AI, prompt engineering, and Design Thinking, and understands the challenges and rewards of continuous skill development in a rapidly evolving landscape.

With over three decades of hands on technology experience, spanning mainframes to AI agents, he brings both technical depth and strong communication skills to make complex ideas clear and actionable. He helps learners build practical competencies and the confidence to continue learning independently, whether they are navigating a career transition, upskilling a team, or exploring what is possible.
